A staircase is often the centrepiece of a villa, and worn handrails and patchy treads spoil it. We sand and stain treads, handrails, spindles and newel posts, matching the floor or giving the whole staircase a new colour.
Parts
The most handled timber in the home, often worn to bare wood. They are sanded smooth and stained. A tough lacquer keeps them protected.
Turned spindles are sanded and stained by hand. Each one is finished evenly. Painted spindles with stained rails are popular.
Posts at the foot and landings are refinished to match. Caps and details are picked out. They anchor the look.
Treads stained to match floors and sealed hard wearing. Risers can be painted white for contrast. Steps finished alternately for access.
Centrepiece
The staircase sets the tone of a villa's entrance.
We stain rails, spindles, posts and treads to match or modernise.
Looks
Classic
Rails, spindles and treads in one timber tone. It looks warm and traditional. It suits classic villas.
Modern
Stained rails and treads with white or black painted spindles and risers. It looks crisp and modern. It brightens the stairwell.
Stairs are often the only route upstairs. We finish alternate treads and protect handrails while drying, so the family can still use the stairs carefully.
Handrails need a hard, smooth finish that stays comfortable to hold. We sand between coats for a silky feel.
For full refinishing, see wooden stair refinishing. For repairs, see stair and banister repair, and for railings, wooden railing staining.

Matte looks natural and hides marks, satin is a practical middle ground for furniture and doors, and gloss is the most wipeable but shows scratches. Most Dubai homes choose matte or satin.
Indoor wood is usually recoated every few years. Outdoor timber in Dubai sun needs re-oiling or restaining every 6 to 12 months, and handrails or floors in busy areas every 12 to 24 months.
Paint covers the wood with an opaque colour and hides the grain. Stain soaks in and changes the colour while keeping the grain visible. Varnish or lacquer is a clear protective coat on top. Many jobs combine a stain with a varnish or oil.
